EMRC Battery Program
Batteries are classified as hazardous waste and should be taken to a drop-off point for safe disposal. The EMRC offer infrastructure and collection services free of charge to public places and schools in the region.
Schools participating in the program are provided additional support via posters, newsletter articles, and assembly presentations. An annual competition is held between participating schools, with high-yielding schools awarded a trophy and prize.
The types of batteries accepted include:
- AA and AAA cells (single use & rechargeable batteries)
- C and D sized batteries
- Button batteries (e.g. from watches)
- 9V batteries
- 6V batteries (e.g. lantern/torch batteries)
To find your nearest public drop-off location visit the Recycle Right website.
Your local supermarkets may have a battery collection container at the front of the store, batteries can be dropped here for free
Note:
- Store batteries in a cool, dry, shaded, well-ventilated area;
- Commercial quantities will not be accepted (businesses visit https://businessrecycling.com.au/); and
